Willem Dafoe joins Robert Eggers’ “Nosferatu.”

After working together on ‘The Lighthouse’ and ‘The Northman’, Willem Dafoe and Robert Eggers are looking to team up for a third time. Dafoe is in talks to join Eggers’ next film, the previously announced “Nosferatu.”

Eggers’ film, inspired by FW Murnau’s iconic 1922 German silent film based on Bram Stoker’s final vampire novel, “Dracula,” stars Bill Skarsgård as Count Orlok, an 18th-century Transylvanian vampire. In Max Schreck’s original film. The film follows Orlok as he obsessively chases a young woman (Lily-Rose Depp) through Germany, bringing horror and bloodshed with him.

Dafoe’s potential role is being kept under wraps, but in addition to the two main actors, he would also join Nicholas Hoult, who is already cast. Notably, Dafoe played Schreck in “Shadow of the Vampire,” a 2000 horror-comedy about the making of the original “Nosferatu.” He was nominated for the best supporting actor category at the Oscars for his performance.

Eggers is writing and directing the film for Focus Features, which opened “The Northman” in the US. He will also serve as producer alongside Jeff Robinov, John Graham, Chris Columbus and Eleanor Columbus. Dafoe had a minor role in The Northman, starring Alexander Skarsgård, and Dafoe was one of two co-stars alongside Robert Pattinson in Egger’s 2019 critically acclaimed film The Lighthouse.

“Nosferatu” is Dafoe’s latest play. The prolific actor will next be seen in Vasilis Katsoupis’ one-act “Inside,” a March release from Focus, and part of the large ensemble of Wes Anderson’s upcoming “Asteroid City.” He also appeared in two films by Yorgos Lanthimos – “The Poor” and “And” – as well as Patricia Arquette’s “Gonzo Girl” and the Italian film “Finalmente l’alba” by Saverio Costanzo. In addition to “The Northman,” Dafoe’s recent films include “Dead for a Dollar,” “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “Nightmare Alley” and “The Card Counter.” Dafoe is repped by Circle of Confusion and WME.

Dafoe’s participation in the upcoming film “Nosferatu” was reported for the first time Deadline.
