The Oscars are coming up. Whether you’re racing to catch as many films as possible before the big night, or focusing on the top contenders in your chosen categories, the 2023 nominees offer a solid mix of crowd-pleasing blockbusters and unique artistic fare, typical Oscar bait.

On Tuesday, Academy voters accepted the sequel, nominating Joseph Kosinski’s “Top Gun: Maverick” and James Cameron’s “Avatar: The Way of Water” for the top prize. Other sequels, including Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, are also nominated in other categories. But Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s universe-shattering original Everything Everywhere All at Once leads the wider race with 11 Oscar nominations, including acting nods from nearly every member of the main cast.

This year’s best films also include Martin McDonagh’s “The Banshees of Inisherin”, Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis”, Steven Spielberg’s “The Fabelmans”, Todd Field’s “LIBRARY”, Ruben Östlund’s “Triangle of Sadness”, Sarah Polley’s “Women Talking” his creation entitled. and “All Quiet on the Western Front” by Edward Berger. While “Women Talking” and “Avatar: The Way of Water” remain exclusive to theaters, the other eight honorees are now streaming — as are many other nominees, including Best Animated Feature (Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio , Marcel in the Shell Shoes, “Blush”, “Boots: The Last Wish”, “The Sea Monster” and Best Documentary (“All That Breathes”, “All the Beauty and the Bloodshed”, “Fire of Love”, “From the Shards ready-made house” and “Navalny”.)
