Watch Michelle Yeoh FaceTime her mom after the historic Oscars

“I’m taking this home to her,” Yeoh said in her Best Actress acceptance speech.

The outpouring of love and support for Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh was truly “Everything Everywhere All at once”.

Yeoh FaceTimed her mother immediately following her Best Actress award, becoming the first Asian woman to receive the award. “I have to dedicate this to my mom — all the moms in the world — because they really are the superheroes. And without them, none of us would be here tonight,” Yeoh said in his acceptance speech on stage.

He continued about his mother Janet Yeoh: “She is 84 years old. And I’m taking this home to him. Currently watching it in KL, Malaysia with my family and friends. I love you guys, I’m taking this home for you.”

Following the win, Yeoh made a direct call to his mother Janet, which was caught on camera by CNA Malaysia Bureau Chief Melissa Goh. Janet told Yeoh, “Malaysia boleh” which means “Malaysia can do it!”

Speaking at a post-Oscars press conference, Janet said: “I love my daughter very much and she has made Malaysia proud. He earned this through hard work. She is a very childlike girl and helps people a lot.”

Yeoh previously admitted that Janet thought her role as Evelyn Wang in Best Picture ‘Everything Everything All at Once’ ‘looked so old’ on screen.

“I think my mom was upset when she saw the movie,” Yeoh said in a W Magazine cover story earlier this year. “I was really worried about him seeing the sex toys that were flying around in the movie, but I don’t think he ever noticed them. Instead, he said, “Why do you look so old? You have to look like you did in the movie where you wore the prom dress! I’m like, “Oh my god.” But that’s so typical of my mother: she wants me to run around the whole movie like a movie star.”

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim congratulated Yeoh on his victory. Associated Press“Coupled with this result, Michelle’s excellent and exemplary career in this field will surely continue to be a great source of inspiration and motivation for our domestic actors and will give even more impetus to the growth of our local industry. Have a good trip, Michelle!”
