The patriarch of the Wayans family has passed away, and tributes are pouring in
The Wayans family, one of Hollywood’s most prominent families, are in deep mourning after the death of their patriarch, Howell Wayans.
On March 3, the Wayans family tragically lost its patriarch, who died at the age of 86 after a long career in show business. His children shared the sad news on social media and paid tribute to their father with heartfelt messages.

In one post, she shared a loving picture of her hugging her father, who planted a kiss on her head as they made peace signs for the camera. In the first part of the accompanying caption, the “Sextuplets” star reflects on how his father inspired him to become a man, noting that his father always responded with “just a man” when asked what he wanted to be.
Additionally, he noted, “My father used to say, ‘A man takes care of himself and his responsibilities.’ His family always comes FIRST. From that day on, I wanted to be a MAN.”
He thanked his father for setting an example for his sons, writing, “I pray that every young black boy grows up to be a man like you.” Finally, she ended the caption with a shout out to her late mother and a toast to her father, saying that she knows where to find her father if she needs him – in the Bible that now sits by her bed.
“If there’s a heaven, I know you’re sitting in VIP, sipping the best wine Jesus can make…” he concluded his eulogy. His dear son sent another tribute post, showing his father sitting with a tall glass of wine in front of him. The upload was labeled, “My man is 50 thousand. Every time I sip a good wine, I think of you.
Marlon’s tribute was followed by his sister Deidra Wayans, who he began his emotional message like this:My heart is heavy” before noting how grateful she was to have “so many years of love and memories” with great parents and amazing siblings.
She recognized how difficult it was to handle, but thanked her parents’ tough love, discipline and devotion for making her a phenomenal woman like her mother. Deidre’s son Craig Wayans was also not left out as he paid a tribute to his grandfather, saying that he had a firm place with Jehovah, and that God had gained another strong soldier.

Epps, known for her roles in ‘Love & Basketball’, ‘House’ among others, shared a sweet photo of the late industry giant with touching words that began: ‘Words can’t even describe how good I feel. Now. This man was a GIANT among giants. Pop Wayans has been a real father to me my whole life.”
He continued: “He always teaches me, gives me jewelry that I still wear to this day. I love you Pop! Thank you for taking me under your wing as if I were your own. We are all devastated, but somehow you prepared us for this moment.” Epps ended up declaring his love for the late icon.

Ten children and several grandchildren survive Howell. His wife, Elvira, died in July 2020 at the age of 81.
