“The Last Of Us” has received an early Season 2 renewal from HBO

The third episode “The last of us” hasn’t even aired, and the show has already been picked up for a second season. Some records after early ratings and huge reviews HBO has confirmed that the sci-fi, post-apocalyptic drama “The Last of Us” has been renewed for a second season.

“The Last Of Us” is already in its second season

HBO recently confirmed the news in an official press release. The renewal comes on the heels of the second episode, which drew 5.7 million viewers across HBO Max and linear television last weekend. HBO also revealed that more than 22 million people watched the first episode domestically, more than five times the initial viewership when the series debuted earlier this month.

According to HBO, the series had the second-biggest debut of all time, behind only “Game of Thrones” prequel spinoff “House of the Dragon.” The second episode attracted more than one million viewers than the first episode. It was the largest increase of any HBO Original Drama series in the history of the premium cable network. Additionally, the show has been a hit on social media in the US and worldwide on Twitter.

The series is co-written by Craig Mazin (“Chernobyl”) and Neil Druckmann, one of the original creators and writers of the video game franchise “The Last of Us” and co-chairman of Naughty Dog.

Francesca Orsi, HBO’s executive vice president of programming and head of drama series and movies at HBO, said of the announcement: “Craig and Neil, along with EP Carolyn Strauss and the rest of our phenomenal cast and crew, defined a genre with their masterful debut. Season of ‘The Last of Us,'” he continued, “After finishing this unforgettable first season, I can’t wait to see this team surpass itself again with season two.”

The series takes place 20 years after the collapse of modern civilization. Pedro Pascal (“The Mandalorian,” “Game of Thrones”) stars as Joel Miller, a tough survivalist hired to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie (Bella Ramsey) through a strict quarantine zone. What starts out as a job soon turns into a heartbreaking and brutal journey through a fallen United States where the two must rely on each other to survive.

In the first season, Gabriel Luna, Tommy, Anna Torv as Tess, Nico Parker as Sarah, Murray Bartlett as Frank, Nick Offerman as Bill, Storm Reid as Riley, and Melanie Lynskey as Kathleen. Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker, who previously appeared in the original video game as Ellie and Joel, will also appear in the show.

The rapidly renewed show is not so surprising in terms of its rapid breakthrough success. The show became a television phenomenon. Not to mention that the series was also recognized by critics. The show currently has a score of 97% Rotten tomatoes.

New episodes of “The Last of Us” debut Sunday on HBO. The show can also be streamed on HBO Max. The first season will consist of nine episodes. The show has one official companion podcast hosted by Baker.
