The Continental” is the first long-awaited spinoff for “John Wick,” the acclaimed box office action franchise. Finally, it debuts on NBCUniversal Peacock app later this year, and Peacock has finally dropped the official trailer for the upcoming series.

The new three-part limited series stars Oscar winner Mel Gibson and takes place 40 years before the events of the film. You can watch the official trailer below:

‘The Continental’ explores the world of ‘John Wick’

The new prequel series notes that it comes from “The World of John Wick.” It will focus on the New York hotel of world-class assassins.

Oscar-winning filmmaker Gibson plays the role of Cormac in the series. However, he does not appear in the teaser trailer. This will be Gibson’s first foray into television since appearing on the 2004 ABC sitcom “Complete Savages.”

The hotel series of events about assassins is presented through the eyes of a young Winston Scott (Colin Woodell in the limited series; Ian McShane in the film series). Winston is dragged into the hellish world of 1970s New York to face the past he has been trying to put behind him. Now Winston must chart a deadly path through the mysterious underworld of the Continental in an attempt to take control and claim his future throne.

Ayomide Adegun plays the younger version of Charon in the series. In the movies, he was played by the late Lance Reddick in the first four “John Wick” movies. Reddick tragically passed away on the eve of the film’s premiere. He was 60 years old.

Although “John Wick: Chapter 4” seemed like the conclusion of the film series and Keanu Reeves’ character, it seems that Lionsgate is moving full speed ahead with spinoffs in the world of the franchise and other platforms.

As The Blast reported, Ana de Armas will star in another “John Wick” spinoff, the theatrical film “Ballerina.” Len Wiseman (“Underworld,” “Live Free or Die Hard”) is directing the upcoming film based on a script by Shay Hatten. In the film, Reeves will also reprise his iconic role as John Wick. Anjelica Huston also reprises her role as ‘The Director’ in ‘John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum’. McShane will also appear in the film as Winston, while Reddick will appear as Charon while working on the film before his death.

“The Continental” has come a long way from Lionsgate TV in development. The story began in 2018, but the long wait is almost over. The show is written and executive produced by Greg Coolidge, Kirk Ward and Shawn Simmons. Albert Hughes (“Menace II Society,” “The Book of Eli”) serves as executive producer and director for episodes one and three. Charlotte Brandstrom (“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”) is directing the second episode.

Other cast members on the show include Michelle Prada, Ben Robson, Hubert Point-Du Jour, Nhung Kate, Jessica Allain, Jeremy Bobb and Peter Greene. “The Continental: From The World of John Wick” will stream exclusively on Peacock. The three-part limited series will debut on the streamer at the end of September.
