‘Swarm’ Trailer: Donald Glover Parodies Stan Culture in Amazon Show
The horror comedy series co-created by Janine Nabers and starring Dominique Fishback debuts on Amazon on March 17th.
The pantheon of art about parasocial relationships is full of hits, from Martin Scorcese’s “The King of Comedy” to Stephen King’s “Misery” to Eminem’s iconic hit “Stan,” which unwittingly created a whole new term for obsessive fans. for. Now Donald Glover adds his own contribution to that canon with the horror-comedy “Swarm,” about the scary world of pop music fans. Amazon has released the full-length trailer for the upcoming Prime Video series.
The Swarm stars Dominque Fishback, best known for her role in Judas and the Black Messiah, as Dre, a young woman who runs the account for the world’s biggest pop star, who, like Beyoncé’s Beyhive, has a well-known fan base. as “The Swarm”. Set between 2016 and 2018, the show sees a lonely and lost Dre embark on a road trip that slowly causes him to lose his sanity and engage in several bloody murders. The stylish trailer, set to a cover of the Pixies’ oft-used “Where is My Mind,” teases Dre’s wild journey, filled with observations and jokes about modern celebrity culture.
Fishback is the only series regular, but Chlöe Bailey and Damson Idris will also guest star as Dre’s sister Marissa and Marissa’s friend Khalid. Rickey Thompson, Paris Jackson, Rory Culkin, Kiersey Clemons and Byron Bowers also appear in the show’s first season.
Glover co-created “Swarm” with Janine Nabers, whose previous TV work includes writing HBO’s “Watchmen” and the final two seasons of Glover’s FX series “Atlanta.” Nabers is the showrunner for the series, while Glover directed the pilot. Both executive produce with Stephen Glover, Fam Udeorji, Steven Prinz and Michael Schaefer, with Fishback serving as executive producer. Gilga is producing the series with Amazon Studios.
In addition to “Swarm,” Prime Video’s “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” a spy comedy adapted from the 2005 film by Glover and Francesca Sloan. Glover will star in the series alongside “Pen15” star Maya Erskine, who replaces Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
All seven episodes of “Swarm” will drop on Prime Video on March 17. The series will have its world premiere on March 10, as the opening night of the South by Southwest Film and TV Festival in Austin, Texas. Watch the full trailer for “Swarm” below.
