“Succession” season 4 trailer, premiere date

The stakes are higher than ever as the Roy kids deal with their failed coup in the March 26 season.

Once you pass the Waystar Royco, there’s no going back.

The latest trailer for “Succession” Season 4 shows the Roy children played by Kieran Culkin, Jeremy Strong, Alan Ruck and Sarah Snook recounting their failed coup against patriarch and Waystar Royco head Logan Roy (Brian Cox).

As Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) and Cousin Greg (Nicholas Braun) pursue their own plan, favored by Logan, the Roy family comes apart at the seams. Shakespearean, really?

In the first taping of the new season of the Emmy-winning HBO series, Cox as Logan declared that Waystar Royco “kills the opposition” …or, in other words, his own children.

According to the official Season 4 logline, the sale of media conglomerate Waystar Royco to tech visionary Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård) is getting closer. The prospect of this seismic sale causes existential angst and familial division among the Roys as they anticipate what their lives will look like once the deal closes. A power struggle ensues as the family considers a future where their cultural and political weight has been greatly diminished.

In addition to guest star Skarsgård, HBO has confirmed that Dagmara Domińczyk, Arian Moayed, Juliana Canfield, Annabelle Dexter-Jones, Justin Kirk, Stephen Root, Hope Davis and Cherry Jones will return next season. Annabeth Gish, Adam Godley, Eili Harboe and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson also join the cast.

The first three seasons of “The Successor” garnered 48 Emmy nominations and 13 wins, including Outstanding Drama Series for seasons two and three. Season 3, which premiered in October 2021, won a SAG Award for Drama Ensemble and ran at the WGA, DGA and PGA.

Season 4 production will head to Norway to capture Lukas’ hometown as Waystar Royco’s buyout deal nears its end, while the show could be headed for its Season 5 series finale. “We don’t want it to overstay its welcome like ‘Billions,'” actor Cox said earlier this year. “This is past its expiration date. That’s not going to happen with our show.”

Co-star Strong added that his character Kendall is in “fresh hell” after (yet another) botched attempt to take over Waystar Royco.

“Succession” is created by Jesse Armstrong and executive produced by Jesse Armstrong, Adam McKay, Frank Rich, Kevin Messick, Jane Tranter, Mark Mylod, Tony Roche, Scott Ferguson, Jon Brown, Lucy Prebble, Will Tracy and Will Ferrell. Jesse Armstrong serves as showrunner.
