When the final season of “Star Trek: Picard” begins streaming on Paramount+ next month, it will mark the end of an era. Patrick Stewart has made it very clear that the final season of the spinoff will be the last time he takes on the role of Jean-Luc Picard — but he’s going out with a bang.
Season 3 sees Jean-Luc Picard return to his roots as he reunites with some of the most iconic faces from “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” including LeVar Burton’s Geordi LaForge, Michael Dorn’s Worf and Gates McFadden’s Beverly Crusher. as Jonathan Frakes Will Riker and Marina Sirtis as Deanna Troi (both previously appeared in Star Trek: Picard Season 1).
The official synopsis for season 3 reads: “In the epic, thrilling conclusion to Star Trek: Picard, a desperate message from a long-lost friend propels Starfleet legend Admiral Jean-Luc Picard on the most daring mission of his life. to recruit allies across generations old and new. This final adventure puts him on a collision course with the legacy of his past and explosive new revelations that will change the fate of the Federation forever.”
While fans will inevitably be sad to see Stewart end his run as Picard, the addition of so many beloved characters should bring a fitting conclusion to the legendary character. Stewart has always said he doesn’t want the Paramount+ series to trade on nostalgia, insisting that “Picard” reflects the passage of time and the world we live in today. Bringing in the character’s old friends while maintaining the narrative philosophy could be a real treat for Trekkies.
“It’s most fitting that Jean-Luc Picard’s story ends in honor of its beginning, with his dearest and most loyal friends on the USS Enterprise,” Season 3 showrunner and executive producer Terry Matalas said recently. “To say it’s an honor to give these characters their proper send-off would be an understatement. The entire Star Trek: Picard team and I can’t wait for fans to experience this final high-stakes starship adventure in Season 3.”
“Picard” Season 3 will begin streaming on February 16, 2023 on Paramount+. Check out the trailer below.
