Sigourney Weaver reveals if she’ll be in another ‘Alien’ movie

Sigourney Weaver he stopped all hope that fans would see his star as such Ellen Ripley again in the “Alien” franchise. The actress played the character in four parts of the film and won critical acclaim for her performance.

Explaining why she no longer wants to play the role, Weaver shared that the “ship has sailed,” adding that she’s “spent time in space.” In 2021, he revealed that the “Aliens” sequel was the “most satisfying” saga for his character.

In an interview Total Film magazine (via Game Rader,) Weaver revealed that she has no plans to reprise her character Ripley in “Alien,” even if the opportunity arises in the near future.

“All kinds of younger actors are taking on roles like this,” Per said Insider. “And there was an ‘Alien’ that I really wanted to do with Neill Blomkamp and we couldn’t do that, but you know, that ship has sailed. I’m very happy doing what I’m doing. I invested my time in the space.”

The actress won critical acclaim in her debut episode, where she and the crew of the ship Nostromo were hunted by a monstrous alien known as the Xenomorph.

Following the film’s success, Weaver was brought back to reprise the character in three more installments, “Aliens” (1986), “Alien 3” (1992) and “Alien Resurrection” (1997).

The film collection has since become a cult classic, primarily due to its iconic female character, Ripley.

On that note, Weaver credited the original “Alien” director Ridley Scott and writer Dan O’Bannon for making the character different from the typical feminine of the time.

She said: “They made Ripley a woman without making her a helpless creature. Because I think I was very lucky. Men created this female character, but they loved and respected strong women.”

Unsurprisingly, the “Alien” franchise spawned a media franchise of movies, books, video games, and toys. It also led to a crossover with the Predator franchise, which resulted in “Alien vs. Predator”, “Aliens vs. It led to the release of Predator: Requiem” and “Alien: Covenant”.

Weaver was slated to appear in the fifth installment of the “Alien” franchise, which was reportedly in the works at some point, and another co-star, Michael Biehn, could return.

However, despite the expectations of the fans, the film was not given the green light for production. In 2017, Ridley Scott, who directed the first installment, confirmed that Fox had canceled further films in the franchise.

“There was never a script. I think it evolved from a 10 page pitch and I was the producer of that. And it didn’t improve,” said the director AlloCine’s in an interview.

He continued, “Fox decided they didn’t want to do it, and that was it.”

Although fans won’t be able to see Weaver as Ripley again, the actress has fond memories of her time on set. In 2021, he revealed that of all the films in the series, the sequel to “Aliens” directed by James Cameron was the most complete for his character.

“The most well-constructed story was in Aliens that the character could tell, just because (Cameron) has such a wonderful sense of how to structure the story,” the actress said, recalling the film’s narrative. IndieWire.

“To get this character out of hypersleep, no one believes him and he’s banished to this uncertain land where no one believes he and his family are dead. The whole build-up of Ripley in ‘Aliens,’ and then what she does at the end and… she finds this new family at the end. The whole structure of the story was gold for me.”
