“Shrinking” has been renewed for Season 2 on Apple TV+
Jason Segel and Harrison Ford return to the therapy dramedy from the creator of “Ted Lasso.”
Harrison Ford graces the TV screens with his presence a little more. The Apple TV+ comedy starring Jason Segel and Indiana Jones himself has been renewed for Season 2.
The news comes a day before the show’s Season 1 finale, which airs Friday. The first two episodes of the series premiered on January 27, with new episodes appearing weekly.
“We’ve loved the engaging, touching and fun world of Shrinking since the beginning, and it’s been wonderful to see how audiences around the world continue to connect with these generous characters,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple. According to the announcement of TV+. “We can’t wait for viewers to experience what the cast and creative team have in store for season two.”
Produced by Segel with “Ted Lasso” creator Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein, writer and star of Lawrence’s other Apple hit, “Shrinking” centers on Jimmy Laird (Segel), a professional therapist who works with a Los Angeles cognitive works in a behavioral center. Still reeling from the death of his beloved wife a year earlier, Jimmy struggles to be there for his patients and decides the best way to help them is to tell them exactly what he thinks and intervene directly in their lives.
Ford plays Jimmy’s mentor Paul; the cast also includes Jessica Williams as Brian’s colleague Gaby, Luke Tennie’s patient Sean, Michael Urie’s best friend Brian, Lukita’s daughter Alice, and Christa Miller’s neighbor Liz.
“Shrinking” received generally positive reviews from critics when it premiered in January; in a mixed review, IndieWire critic Ben Travers wrote that the series was a “relentless charm assault” but also praised Ford’s performance for “making laughs with his own surprising choices”.
The series is produced by Warner Bros. Television, where Lawrence is under general contract, and Lawrence’s Doozer Productions. Lawrence, Segel and Goldstein serve as executive producers along with Neil Goldman, Randall Winston, Jeff Ingold, Liza Katzer and James Ponsoldt, who directed the pilot.
In addition to “Shrinking,” Lawrence has another series, “Bad Monkey,” starring Vince Vaughn, expected to premiere on Apple TV+ later this year, and “Ted Lasso”‘s third (and potentially final) season in March on the 15th. Ford’s other TV series, ‘Yellowstone’ prequel ‘1923, also returns for Season 2 on Paramount+.
