Sharon Stone: Robert De Niro was a rare non-“misogynistic” co-star

The “Basic Instinct” star revealed that she has worked with “misogynistic” male co-stars over the decades in Hollywood, but was quick to point out that fellow “Casino” actors Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci are exceptions.

“I’ve worked with some of the biggest stars in the business who literally talk through my close-up and tell me what they think I should be doing,” Stone said. Stone recently appeared on “Saturday Night Live” with musical guest Sam Smith for a live performance. The acclaimed actress noted that she often appears in Hollywood due to her previous roles in erotic thrillers.

“I’m not being called to play these parts, I’m being called to take my clothes off and play these crazy sociopathic characters, because I’ve played one (in several previous films),” Stone said. “They don’t ask to play thoughtful, sensitive characters. I’m a painter – I have two shows – and I’m a songwriter, I’ve had three number 1s in other countries. But I will never get “Basic Instinct” out of my head. I came into this world as a Barbie, so it’s difficult for people to give me the opportunity to be anything else.”

Stone revealed that he was thrilled to work with Scorsese and De Niro on the 1995 classic “Casino.”
