Neill asked his fans to focus on his work as he continues to undergo cancer treatment.

Film lovers received some shocking news this week when Sam Neill revealed that he has been battling angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma for the past year. His comment about not being afraid to die drew particular attention, which led to many expressing their support for the beloved actor.

But the “Jurassic Park” star doesn’t want her fans to spend too much time worrying about her. Following the initial news cycle, Neill posted a video in person Instagram remind your fans that you’re in recovery—and that you’d rather they focus on your work.

“My news seems to be in the news right now, and it’s kind of like, ‘Cancer! Cancer! Cancer!” Neill wrote in the post’s caption. “It’s a bit tiring because as you can see I’m alive and well and I’ve been in remission for eight months which feels great. And I’m alive, kicking, and going to work. I am very happy to go back to work. We start filming in seven days. I’m doing “Apples Never Fall” with Annette Bening and a really amazing cast. So here I am and I just wish the title wasn’t so much ‘that thing’.

Neill went on to explain that the hiatus from acting prompted him to write the upcoming “Have I Ever Told You That?” his memoir? She said that writing the book has been a surprisingly positive experience and she doesn’t want her diagnosis to get in the way of people enjoying it.

“I didn’t really want to write a book, I needed something to do while I was in treatment and getting used to work and suddenly I couldn’t go to work. That’s why I wrote the book, and I have to say that there was a great response to it. People seem to love it, which is great. I was very nervous, obviously as a first time writer. Anyway, I think it’s fun. We added the subtitle “Movies, life, love and other disasters”. So it gives you an idea of all the crazy things that have happened to me. The tone of the book surprised me. I never thought I would have a career in acting, let alone as an actor on screen. But somehow it happened, and I look back on this life full of gratitude, and that’s what the book is about. I hope you enjoy it. I enjoyed reading the audiobook the other day, I haven’t watched the book in a while, but I found it much more entertaining than I expected.

“I hope you enjoy it and let’s not worry too much about ‘everything’ because I’m fine,” he concluded. “Okay!”
