Reese Witherspoon explained the plot of “How Do You Know” on the plane

“Guys, I don’t know what’s going to happen!” Witherspoon said she detailed the entire 2010 rom-com after the in-flight movie got stuck.

Reese Witherspoon once took off on a plane…literally.

The rom-com queen explained the entire plot of the 2010 film “How Do You Know” to her fellow passengers after the in-flight movie player shut down.

“When they had a movie that they played on airplanes, it was like a five-hour flight, and I walk in and they say, ‘The movie today is How Do You Know, starring Reese Witherspoon. ‘” he explained on “Late Night with Seth Meyers.”

“I was like, ‘Oh my God. I have nowhere to hide. It’s so embarrassing,” Witherspoon said before revealing one of the rewards. “Probably, maybe 10 minutes into the flight film, it broke off and the clip went bad. So I went to the front of the plane and spoke into the microphone… I said, “Hey guys. I don’t think the movie is coming back, so I’m just walking you through, beat by beat, (through) what happened.”

Witherspoon detailed the plot as she played a former US softball champion who is cut from the national team and becomes caught up in a love triangle between a professional baseball player (Owen Wilson) and a corporate executive (Paul Rudd) whose father (Jack Nicholson) ) has suspicious business relationships.

“So I’ll go with Owen Wilson first.” It’s not going well. And he’s a professional baseball player, and you know it’s going to go south,” Witherspoon explained. “So, I have a crazy great date with Paul Rudd, but his dad is asking him to go to jail for a crime. Guys, I don’t know what’s going to happen! Am I going with Owen Wilson? Am I going with Paul Rudd? What will happen? And they said, ‘Yes!’ It was very funny.”

He added: “It was actually so fun and funny that I could tell people the entire plot of my film in three minutes.”

Witherspoon’s latest romantic comedy, Your Place or Mine, stars Ashton Kutcher and debuts on Netflix on February 10. The star said of the genre itself: “It’s not like taking a test. You know there are movies where you’re like, “What was I supposed to get out of this? I just feel bad. Or, “Oh, I’m supposed to feel embarrassed for not knowing about it.”

Fellow rom-com icon Kate Hudson recently spoke about how the genre has been “dumbed down” in recent years, and about misconceptions about tropes.

“(They need) a really good story, let’s start with that,” Hudson said. “I think sometimes people think rom-coms are about ‘meeting cute.’ A great rom-com about meeting love, discovering love, falling in love, falling out of love and then getting back together. It’s a very traditional rom-com structure.”
