Rapper Juvenile’s “Back That Thang Up” Gets New Life

Youthful performed many of his hits NPR’s tiny desk. Of course, “Back That Azz Up” is quickly becoming a fan favorite again!

Adolescent finally gets a tiny desk show

A few months ago, fans begged NPR to let Juvenile perform some of his classics in the room. Did they ever think this would happen? No, but now we get an all-strings version of “Back That Azz Up.”

The room was filled with that New Orleans energy as the rapper was pumped up by Manny Fresh, who sat down at the piano and at one point played the damn thing. The instruments accompanying the rapper are trumpet, saxophone, rhythmic guitar, etc.

The backing singers wore the khaki jumpers that the rapper made popular in his day. And we wouldn’t be remiss if we didn’t mention that she’s back to being happy, healthy, and comfortable.

The rapper created something special with all the songs he performed. He slowed down “Rodeo” and added sultry backing vocals. The harsh lyrics matched the sweet, melodic beat; it’s an undeniable combo. “Nah, the juvenile doing Rodeo for Tiny Desk is ART,” wrote one fan of the show.

The duo performed their hit ‘I Need A Hot Girl’ and lit up the tiny room. Everyone was jumping and making noise. The moment quickly builds to become just as epic as Usher’s Tiny Desk release almost a year ago.

“For the Tiny Desk to get me going on Friday!! @juviethegreat did what it took in Burberry fitness with the Soulja Rag! I needed all of this! 🥹” praised one fan.

Another fan on Twitter agreed. “Wait a minute, my whole life today is NPR’s Tiny Desk for Teens. The way he phrased it, the way he spoke, and his ability to rock out with a live band reminded me that these people were second-line descendants.”

That well-known intro when he picked up those strings before the rapper’s “Back That Azz U,” the fiddler knew what he was doing. He smiled and the crowd immediately became loud. Even Manny Fresh looked surprised and excited at the same time, as if he didn’t know the order of the setlist.

This song will do that to you. “Yooooo. Juvenile is NOT here to play with you guys on this tiny desk. I just watched Back That Azz Up with STRINGS. Yeah, man. That’s a Top 5 TINY DESK performance. Period.”

He must have been so wild

At one point, Manny Fresh teased fans, leading them to believe that “Go DJ” was next. He plays a few notes on the piano and the Juvenile shouts “Go DJ”, the crowd goes wild, but they stop there.

“As Mannie Fresh teased his ‘Go DJ’ on Tiny Desk, I almost lost it. Minors don’t have to click ‘Launch’ like that.”

Now we need Lil’ Wayne and the whole Cash Money crew to hit it off! Tiny Desk is having an exciting year; word on the street is Chloe Bailey filming a Tiny Desk as we speak!

The photos show the singer in her usual surroundings, singing from the heart.
