Prince Harry & Meghan Were ‘Crushed’ By Decision To Leave The Royal Family

Almost three years after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex exited the royal family, a journalist revealed Meghan Markle‘s last words before her departure. Meghan allegedly whispered the words in their ear while she was leaving.

The couple’s decision to step down as senior royals was not easy for them to make. After they did, Prince Harry and Meghan discussed their experience in their docuseries “Harry And Meghan” and the Duke’s memoir, Spare. The duo recently spoke up against children being exposed to the wrong media.

A journalist has revealed Meghan Markle’s final words before her shocking exit from the royal family alongside her husband, Prince Harry. The author, Omid Scobie, wrote about Meghan’s reaction in his recent biography, Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan. In the book, Scobie noted that a tearful Meghan said, “It didn’t have to be this way.”

She allegedly whispered the words to the journalist while attending the Association of Commonwealth Scholars event. The writer revealed that Meghan said this with teary eyes and was trying to be strong in public. He recalled hugging her to show support and console the former “Suits” star.

According to the New York Post, Scobie wrote of the moment, “The tears that the duchess had been bravely holding back (were) free to flow among familiar faces.” He added that Meghan was set to return to her home “in the last commercial flight of the day,” leaving the royal family for good. “The Duchess of Sussex emotionally (bid) much-loved aides farewell, with her flight ‘home’ to Canada leaving in a matter of hours.”

Scobie wrote that Harry and Meghan decided to boycott their senior roles at The Firm with heavy hearts. The duo felt “crushed” about having to leave but believed it was the best thing for their family. This was because they felt neglected by the royal family.

The writer noted, “To say (Harry and Markle) were crushed is an understatement. It’s a decision that the couple still feel wasn’t necessary, but also wasn’t a surprise, given the lack of support they received.”

This revelation comes after the couple previously talked about the lack of support from the royal family during a heart-to-heart with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021. Harry and Meghan added that their need for privacy equally influenced their decision to leave.

During the sit-down, the couple revealed instances of racism and unfair treatment during their time at Buckingham Palace. Meghan recalled an instance when an alleged jab was thrown at her son, Prince Archie’s skin tone. The Duchess added that her brother-in-law’s wife, Kate Middleton, behaved cruelly towards her and made her feel unwelcome in the family.

In the Duke’s memoir, he discussed his relationship with top royal family members, including his elder brother William and his stepmother, Camilla.

The docuseries, which premiered on Netflix in December 2022, included Meghan’s personal experiences with the royal family and how they faced them as a couple. The docuseries marked their first major project with the streaming giant following their mouth-watering $100 Million.

Harry and Meghan recently got involved with mental health issues caused by social media-related activities.

The couple called the attention of social media companies and asked them to put more restrictions on their content for the protection of children. During their Archewell Foundation panel session, they listened to stories of fellow parents who lost kids because of mental issues aggravated by social media.

During the sit-down, Meghan noted, “Our kids are really young … but social media is not going away.” She added that companies need to step up, given the tragic accounts of the mourning parents. “There’s no way to hear that and not try to help these families have their stories be heard.”

Harry supported her point by suggesting a way forward: “For us, the priority here is to turn pain into purpose.” The Duke added, “Please stop sending children content you wouldn’t want your own children to see. I think it’s a very simple request, and it’s an easy fix.”

He revealed that they talked to tech companies about the issue and hoped to get positive feedback.
