Oscars, SAGs and more – IndieWire

With the pandemic in the rear view (at least as far as Hollywood is concerned in terms of day-to-day operations), the 2023-2024 Oscars season is returning to its regular calendar template. This year’s Academy Awards will be broadcast live on Sunday, March 10, 2024, on ABC from the Dolby Theater in Ovation Hollywood, roughly a year behind the 2023 Oscars.

The Academy plans to stay away from the Super Bowl (February 11, 2024), leaving plenty of time to plan the Oscar show after the nominations are announced on January 24, 2024. Academy CEO Bill Kramer is expected to bring back last year’s producers Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner and host Jimmy Kimmel if he can. Stay tuned.

The Academy returned to both the standard 12-month calendar year and six-city theatrical eligibility requirements. (Next year brings new eligibility rules, including expanding the theater to an extra week and 10 cities across the country.) One thing we still don’t know about the upcoming awards show: whether January’s Golden Globes telecast will return to NBC, which they broadcast. the 2023 awards ceremony. Negotiations are ongoing with the new owners of the for-profit show.
