Oscar In Memoriam: Anne Heche, Paul Sorvino and others

Leslie Jordan and more were impressed by the 2023 Oscars.

Every year, it’s a depressing ritual: Who won’t the Academy recognize in its annual In Memoriam segment? During the live ceremony, several stars who passed away in the past year were left out.

Anne Heche, Paul Sorvino, Tom Sizemore, Leslie Jordan and “Triangle of Sadness” star Charlbi Dean were not included in the tribute. Walking and Talking star Heche died in a car accident in August 2022; he was in a coma before he was taken off life support.

Sizemore similarly died in March 2023 after being taken off life support following a ruptured brain aneurysm. Jordan died after suffering a medical emergency while behind the wheel and crashing his car in October 2022.

Triangle of Sorrows actress Charlbi Dean died of pneumonia in August 2022 at the age of 32.

Palme d’Or-winning director Ruben Östlund shared his tributes to Dean, writing: “Charlbi’s sudden death is a shock and a tragedy. It is an honor to have met and worked with him. Charlbi’s care and sensitivity lifted her colleagues and the entire film crew. It makes me very sad to think that he won’t be with us in the future.”

Sorvino, who famously appeared in the movie “Goodfellas” alongside actor Ray Liotta, died of natural causes in July 2022 at the age of 83. Daughter, Mira Sorvino wrote at the time: “My father, the great Paul Sorvino, is gone. My heart was torn asunder—living in love, joy, and wisdom ended with him. He was the most amazing father. I really love him. Sending you love in the stars, Dad, as you rise.”

Mira had previously attributed her father to him Oscar speech for “Mighty Aphrodite,” saying in 1996 that his Oscar was an equal honor for Paul Sorvino, “who taught me everything I know about acting.”

Barbara Walters, Cindy Williams, Melinda Dillon and Lisa Marie Presley were also not included in In Memoriam. Walters died on New Year’s Eve 2022 after a decades-long career as a journalist, while Presley recently collaborated on Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Elvis’ biopic about his father, Elvis Presley.
