Nicholas Hoult dropped out of Mission: Impossible for The Great

Nicholas Hoult had to do something few Hollywood people dream of: turning down Tom Cruise.

The “Renfield” star revealed that after originally being cast as the main villain in “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” in January 2020, he had to step away from production to finish Season 3 of the Hulu series “The Great.” “Bad A Boys” actor Esai Morales replaced Hoult in the blockbuster sequel.

“I tested for ‘The Batman’ and it didn’t work out. “Top Gun” didn’t make it when tested on the screen,” Hoult said The guardian. “Then Tom Cruise called me, ‘Hey, how about ‘Mission Impossible’?” OKAY. Got it. And then I had to cancel because I was already insisting on doing some more of ‘The Great’.”

In the film called Great, Hoult III. Peter plays the Russian emperor alongside Elle Fanning’s eponymous Catherine the Great. Both Hoult and Fanning received Emmy nominations for their performances in Season 2 of the historical satire. Season 3 of “The Great” will premiere on Hulu on May 12, 2023, two years after the second season debuted.

While Robert Pattinson and Miles Teller were cast in “The Batman” and “Top Gun: Maverick,” Hoult was later cast in Robert Eggers’ “Nosferatu.” Despite being another take on the Dracula story, Hoult said the film “couldn’t be further removed from ‘Renfield’ if it tried.” Also starring Willem Dafoe, Lily-Rose Depp, Bill Skarsgård and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

Hoult teased that the buddy comedy “Renfield” is a mix of “almost The Devil Wears Prada” with a sprinkling of “Notting Hill” and “John Wick.” The Weather Man” back in 2005. The actor previously credited Cage with guiding him on both sets.

“She was intimidated, but she felt very calm and safe with Nick,” Hoult said of the experience. “I should note that I also ate my first corndog in his presence. It was in a scene that was obviously a big moment that stuck with me. But then yes, to be able to work with him again, as an adult, I appreciate his work much more.”
