Netflix Cancels “Sex/Life” With Sarah Shahi After Season 2
The NetflixSex/Life” will end after the show’s second season. The cancellation news comes just weeks after the series debuted its second season on the streamer The Hollywood Reporter. Season 2 only had six episodes, after the first season’s total of eight.
“Sex/Life” got the ax from Netflix
Star Sarah Shahi (“Person of Interest,” “Bullet to the Head,” “Old School”) appears to have already returned before the show’s cancellation. She has signed on to star in ABC’s new legal television drama, “Judgement.” As reported Deadline, Shahi will star in the pilot and former “Charmed” showrunner Joey Falco and 20 television. He is currently in the running for ABC’s season-long pick-up. Shahi also starred alongside Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the DC Comics superhero film “Black Adam,” which was released last October.
While the show was canceled with the second season, the show ended with Shahi’s character Billie reuniting with her ex Brad (Adam Demos). They got married on a beach. However, showrunner Stacy Rukeyser previously told THR that she didn’t see the final episode as the end of the series.

Speaking to THR, Rukeyser said, “The episode was never meant to be a series finale, that’s for sure.” The showrunner continued, “I know there are always more stories to be told in the ‘Sex/Life’ universe with these characters, and I hope we get the chance to tell those stories. In this season, we had to get to a place that makes sense with all the characters.” Whether Rukeyster will get the chance to tell the stories he had in mind for the show remains to be seen.
Shahi also noted in a recent podcast interview:Not skinny, but not fat” that he didn’t feel the support for the second season that existed for the first. He also stated that he “struggled with the material” in Season 2.
According to Netflix’s internal data, the series pulled in 126.8 million hours of viewing time worldwide between March 2 and 26, before the show fell out of the Top 10 English-language shows on the streaming platform. Viewership was down approximately 45% compared to the same time period for the first season, which drew approximately 232.79 million viewers in June 2021.

In Season 2, Demos’ character was given a reduced role, which Shahi called a “bummer”. Shahi and Demos began dating in December 2020, which Shahi felt helped promote the pairing while “Not Skinny But Not Fat”.
The series also starred Mike Vogel, Margaret Odette, Cleo Anthony and Darius Homayoun. The series was based on the book “44 Chapters About 4 Men” by BB Easton. Rukeyser executive produced the series with J. Miles Dale and Jordan Hawley.
Some of the more recent Netflix shows that were recently renewed for Season 2 include “The Recruit,” “The Mole,” “The Lincoln Lawyer,” and “The Sandman.” Netflix renewed “The Recruit” earlier this year, starring Shahi’s “Black Adam” co-star Noah Centineo.
While the show was canceled, Netflix subscribers can still watch two seasons of “Sex/Life” on the streamer.
