Morgan Freeman joins Zoe Saldana and Nicole Kidman in The Lion
Another Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman has joined Taylor Sheridan’s (“Yellowstone”) upcoming new spy drama television series, “Loness.” Paramount+ announced the news this week in an official press release on Friday (January 13).
Sheridan is reportedly assembling an all-star cast for the next series.

Freeman is the latest thespian to join the cast of the upcoming Paramount+ original series. The series stars and is executive produced by Zoe Saldaña, Oscar winner Nicole Kidman and Laysla De Oliveira. According to the announcement, Freeman will play Edwin Mullins, the United States Secretary of State.
The show has a very respectable pedigree at this point with Sheridan behind the camera. Sheridan also won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 2017 for “Hell or High Water.”

The series is based on a real-life CIA program, in which De Oliveira plays Cruz Manuelos, a rough but passionate Marine who is recruited into the CIA’s Lion Engagement Team to take down a terrorist organization from the inside. Saldaña will play Joe, the Station Chief of the Lion Program who trains, supervises and leads the female Secret Service agents.
Other stars of the series include Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, LaMonica Garrett, James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton, Stephanie Nur and Hannah Love Lanier. The show is executive produced by Sheridan, Saldaña, Kidman, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin, Wagner, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Malone and John Hillcoat.
The 85-year-old Freeman is a two-time Oscar winner. In 2005, he won his first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Million Dollar Baby. In 2010, he won his second Oscar for his portrayal of Nelson Mandela in Invictus. During his brilliant career, he was nominated for an Oscar five times. During his career, Freeman won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in 1990 for his performance in the film ‘Driving Miss Daisy’. He later received the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes in 2012. It was also nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award. Prize three times.

“Lioness” is the latest original series for Paramount+’s growing television lineup. Other streaming shows in the Paramount+ lineup include the “Yellowstone” prequel “1883” and “1923,” “Mayor of Kingstown,” “Tulsa King,” “Bass Reeves” and “Land Man.” Between “Yellowstone” and “Loness,” Sheridan is currently one of the busiest creatives in town. “Tulsa King” received an early renewal for Season 2 last November.
As The Blast previously reported, Paramount Pictures is also producing a sequel to the 1999 cult classic ‘Election,’ and Reese Witherspoon has signed on to play the iconic role of Tracy Flick in the sequel, ‘Tracy Flick Can’t Win.’ Original “Choice director and co-writer Alexander Payne has also returned to them for the project, which is being produced as a Paramount+ original film. Other shows available on the streamer include “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” “Star Trek: Picard,” “Star Trek: Discovery” and “Halo.”
The show is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios and will be broadcast exclusively on Paramount+. There is no official debut date yet.
