The actor and Parkinson’s research advocate recently shared the devastating news that he lost his hands, elbows, humerus and shoulders, arms, and hands to the progressive neurological disorder.

Parkinson’s disease is a disorder that affects the nervous system and causes tremors, stiffness, and difficulty moving. It is a chronic and progressive disease, meaning that symptoms get worse over time.

Fox was first diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991 at the age of 29, and has been open about her battle with the disease ever since. He was an advocate for Parkinson’s disease research and founded the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which aims to find a cure for the disease.
