Matthew Perry to remove Keanu Reeves insult from Memoir

Matthew Perry continues to make amends for his shot at Keanu Reeves.
The Friends star sparked controversy last year when she mentioned Reeves while paying tribute to the late River Phoenix in her memoir Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing.
“River was a beautiful person inside and out — too beautiful for this world, as it turned out,” Perry wrote in the book. “It always seems like the really talented guys get dropped. Why is it that original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves is still with us? River was a better actor than me; I was funnier. But I certainly held my own in our scenes—no small feat, looking back decades later.”
Reeves’ persona as one of Hollywood’s most handsome actors — and the friendship he forged with Phoenix while filming “My Private Idaho” — led many fans to claim the part was in bad taste. Perry eventually agreed with the sentiment and publicly apologized to Reeves.
“I’m actually a big fan of Keanu,” Perry said shortly after the book was released. “I picked a random name, my fault. I apologize. I should have used my own name instead.”
Now he’s taking things a step further. Performance at the Los Angeles Times Book Festival on Saturday (via Species), Perry pledged to remove Reeves’ name from future editions of his memoir.
“I said something stupid. It was mean,” Perry said. “I pulled his name out because I live on the same street. I apologized to him publicly. His name will not appear in future versions of the book.”
Perry added that despite living on the same street as Reeves, he didn’t get a chance to personally apologize to the “John Wick” star. However, the actor said he has no objection to this and plans to apologize when they meet in person.
“If I run into the guy, I apologize,” he said. “It was just stupid.”
