Matthew McConaughey plays Elvis Presley in Netflix’s Agent Elvis
The new animated series will debut on the streamer this March. The one and only Elvis Presley trades his jumpsuit for a jetpack in the new show as the musician joins a top-secret government spy program to fight the forces of darkness threatening the United States. He does all this while leading a double life with his day job as the King of Rock and Roll.
The first season is planned to be ten episodes, and Sony Pictures Animation will produce the adult animated series. The series is described by Netflix as a “respectable action comedy.” For example, Elvis is joined by his gun-toting chimpanzee companion, Scatter. In real life, Elvis had a pet chimpanzee named Scatter.

The series was created by Priscilla Presley and John Eddie and developed by hosts Mike Arnold and Eddie. Priscilla Presley and Fletcher Moules serve as co-executive producers and the series is produced by Seranie Manoogian. It will feature original music by Tyler Bates and Timothy Williams.
McConaughey won an Academy Award in 2014 for his performance in the 2013 film “The Dallas Buyers Club.” His involvement, along with Presley’s widow, Priscilla, definitely lends a lot of credibility to this project. While this seems like a very wacky, goofy premise, it’s generally a positive, albeit comical take on Elvis and presents him as a secret agent for a shady agency that looks like something out of Men in Black. or ‘James Bond’.
McConaughey is no stranger to voice acting, having starred in two blockbuster CG animations, ‘Sing’ and ‘Sing 2’. He also voices Hank the Cowdog in the children’s podcast series, “Hank the Cowdog” from QCODE and based on the children’s book series. He also worked on the beloved Laika stop-motion animated film, “Kubo and the Two Strings.”

The latest live-action biopic about the late great rocker “Elvis” was a huge hit, grossing $151 million domestically and $287 million worldwide. Directed by Baz Luhrmann and starring Austin Butler as Presley and Tom Hanks as Colonel Tom Parker, the film was nominated for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Butler.
As previously reported by The Blast, Presley’s daughter Lisa Marie Presley tragically passed away last month due to cardiac arrest. He was 54 years old. Following the news of her nomination, Butler commented in an interview with “Today With Hoda And Jenna,” “But I think it’s a way to honor her. This is for him.”
“Agent Elvis” will be released exclusively on Netflix in March 2023. It doesn’t have a definitive premiere date yet.
