List of winners of the London Critics’ Circle Film Awards 2023
Todd Field continued his strong awards season with a director of the year win as voters showered love on the cast of “The Banshees of Inisherin.”
The contenders for the season’s two most formidable awards had plenty to celebrate at the 43rd London Critics’ Circle Film Awards on Sunday night. Todd Field’s “TÁR” and Martin McDonagh’s “The Banshees of Inisherin” both walked away with the biggest prize of the night, adding new wrinkles to the highly competitive Oscar race.
“TÁR” received the main prize of the ceremony, the title of Film of the Year, as well as the director of the year award and the actress of the year award to Cate Blanchett. Most of the other acting categories went to the cast of ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’, with Colin Farrell winning Actor of the Year, Kerry Condon winning Supporting Actor of the Year and Barry Keoghan winning Supporting Actor of the Year. McDonagh also won screenwriter of the year and “Banshees” won British/Irish film of the year.
In other categories, Park Chan-wook’s “Decision to Leave” and Colm Bairéad’s “The Quiet Girl” shared foreign language film of the year. Charlotte Wells, director of “Aftersun”, was awarded the Philip French Award for Breakthrough British/Irish Filmmaker.
