Hollywood’s biggest directors face off in a contest that could predict who will win best director at next month’s Oscars.
The Oscars are less than a month away, so every award show counts. In the coming weeks, all the major Hollywood guilds will present their annual awards, ensuring that every department gets the spotlight. Tonight, directors take center stage as Hollywood gathers at the Beverly Hilton Hotel for the Directors Guild of America Awards.
The ceremony honors outstanding achievements in film and television directing, and the former category is often seen as the best director award at the Academy Awards. Four of the five best director nominees are competing tonight in the feature film category: Steven Spielberg (“The Fabelmans”), Martin McDonagh (“The Banshees of Inisherin”), Todd Field (“TÁR”), and Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. (“Everything Everywhere All at once”). “Triangle of Sadness” director Ruben Östlund was not nominated, “Top Gun: Maverick” helmer Joseph Kosinski will take his place.
