In a recent interview with People magazine, Wayne Brady openly shared his pansexuality, marking a significant personal revelation. The 51-year-old “Let’s Make A Deal” star, previously married to Mandie Taketa until their divorce in 2008, talked about his journey to self-discovery and how supportive his loved ones have been.

In his interview, Brady explained that while he initially considered himself bisexual, he now aligns with pansexuality. For him, being pansexual means feeling attraction to individuals irrespective of their sexual orientation, whether gay, straight, bi, transsexual, or non-binary.

He emphasized that this broader understanding resonates with him, saying, “I think, at least for me right now, that is the proper place. I took pan to mean that not only can I be attracted to any of these people or types physically, but I could be attracted to the person that is there.”

Opening up about his journey, Brady told People magazine that he has done “all the therapy (he) could do” and underwent treatment for “love addiction.”

“It’s a part of my journey. I had to start examining why I was looking for myself and happiness in a slew of people,” he stated.

Following the tragic loss of Robin Williams in 2014, Brady admitted that his death really impacted and set him on a journey to “self discovery.”

As a result, the actor became an advocate for mental health, actively participating in groups like Bring Change To Mind, which focused on genuine mental well-being.

He emphasized the importance of self-love and exploring his own identity, stating, “And not just the buzzword of mental health, but really what do I have to do to function in this big world and still be okay with yourself and more importantly, to love yourself so that you don’t hurt yourself?”

The “Crossover” star also acknowledged a love deficit within himself and described this realization as his turning point.

“Once I opened that door to myself though, I had to start learning about myself, and I had to start owning up to things that maybe I’d either repressed, suppressed, or just didn’t wanna deal with,” he explained.

Brady continued, “But the pity is then I come home, and I don’t have that joy. I have joy because I love my daughter and I love my family. I love being a dad more than chocolate ice cream.”

“But that can’t be my only joy. I have to love myself. And that’s when I realized that I had a problem because if I can spend everything on stage and on camera but then I come home and there is a love deficit, what is going on? That was my rock bottom,” he added.

Before revealing his identity, Brady admitted grappling with shame and secrecy. He likened this feeling to consuming a “shame cake” daily and worrying about people discovering his truth. Despite having a supportive LGBTQ+ friend circle, he felt like he wasn’t genuine and lived in a state of concealment.

He finally realized the need to break free from this behavior and embrace openness, saying, “I’ve told myself in the past, also, nobody needs to know my personal business. But that gave me license to still live in the shadows and to be secretive.”

He added, “What does that feel like to actually not be shameful, to not feel like, ‘Oh, I can’t be part of this conversation because I’m lying?’ I had to break that behavior.”

Brady openly acknowledged that his journey of self-improvement is ongoing. He expressed that his focus on personal well-being enables him to excel in various roles—whether as the vibrant host of “Let’s Make A Deal” or “the best dad that Maile (his daughter) needs.”

He continued, “I can be the best friend to Mandie, the best son to my mother, and one day, the best partner to someone, because I’m doing this for me.”

Addressing his current dating status, Brady confirmed that he is single. However, he shared that his current priority is his personal growth, saying, “I’ve got some work to do still.”

“Then, Wayne as a single, open-minded pansexual can make a decision and be free and open to other people,” he added.
