He is also “trying” to change his mind about their breakup. The source said he was “blindsided” by the situation and realized he couldn’t do without Baumgartner.

“Everyone thought Kevin and his wife were extremely happy, so this is all a surprise,” the source noted. “He really loves her and is trying to get her back. It blinded him.”

Still, Costner responded to the 49-year-old’s divorce filing on Tuesday, May 9. She wants joint custody of their children, ages 15, 14 and 12. This is the ‘Let Him Go’ actor’s second divorce as he called it quits with his first wife in 1994 after 16 years of marriage.

When asked if she expected the divorce, the insider explained that it was an “unpleasant surprise.” Costner’s rep shared a statement on his behalf regarding the divorce.

She revealed that the 68-year-old was saddened by the situation and noted how difficult it had been for him.
