Kelly Ripa’s television favorite had no price. She said she endured seemingly sexist working conditions in her early days on ABC’s “Live!” in his show.

During a recent interview SpeciesRipa, 52, talked about fighting for decent office space, a private bathroom and other perks in her early days at the news network.

The daytime talk show host revealed that he wasn’t given an office backstage after “Live!” worked on the film for about four years, as various vacant spaces were “reserved” for West Coast executives.

“It was the strangest experience of my life,” he remarked. “They told me I couldn’t have an office. It didn’t make much sense, mainly because there were empty offices that I could have easily occupied.”

Four years after joining the network, the “All My Children” alum revealed that they later prepared a small janitorial closet for her to use as an office space.

“After my fourth year, they finally cleaned out the closet and put a desk in there. So I worked in the janitor’s closet with a desk to have a place to put things,” she shared.

Ripa has seen several co-hosts come and go since replacing Kathie Lee Gifford on the daytime show. When her longtime partner Regis Philbin retired in 2011, she claimed ABC he wouldn’t let her use his office because she was “saved”.

“I said, ‘What are we saving for? And they say, ‘Well, when the new guy comes in,'” he said. “And I looked at them and said, ‘I’m the new guy. I just moved my stuff. I forced myself into the office because I didn’t understand how I could still be in the janitor’s closet and someone new would come in and get the office.

He had to share a bathroom with members of the audience

In his interview SpeciesRipa noted that she had to share a public bathroom because the network didn’t provide one.

He explained that while his co-host at the time, Regis Philbin, had a toilet, he was forced to share the public restroom with members of the audience.

“Imagine that. We have a studio audience of 250 people! — and I have to stand in line,” she declared. “Especially when I was pregnant, standing in line was extremely tiring. I have to host the show and I’m still standing in line to go to the bathroom. You know , it seemed like a very unnecessarily difficult situation.”

Ripa explained that she doesn’t blame her co-host for not standing up for her, noting that such treatment was common at the time.

“The network had an obligation and duty to keep everything equal,” he shared. “I don’t blame the guys; they just did what they were told, or what they were told, or what they deserved. Still, I will do my best to protect the people I work with at all costs, even if it means I’m not as popular.”

Ripa’s husband Mark Consuelos is reportedly replacing co-host Ryan Seacrest on the show.

After six years as host of the ABC show, Seacrest announced his departure on an episode in February, and Ripa later revealed that her husband was taking over for good.

Consuelos previously made regular appearances on Seacrest before taking the position permanently, most notably on a January episode of the show, where he made a joke about warning his daughter against going inside their house to have sex.

Thanks to their off-screen chemistry, Ripa and Consuelos seem excited to start the “Live” concert together and don’t think it will put a strain on their relationship.
