Jonathan Majors was arrested Saturday morning in New York on charges of assault, strangulation and harassment after an argument with a woman.

A spokesperson for NYPD Deputy Commissioner Public Information confirmed Majors’ arrest and gave IndieWire the following statement: “2023. on Saturday, March 25th at approximately 1114 hours, police responded to a 911 call at an apartment… the 10th Precinct. The preliminary investigation determined that a 33-year-old man was involved in a domestic dispute with a 30-year-old woman. The victim informed the police that he had been assaulted. The police took the 33-year-old man into custody without incident. The victim suffered minor head and neck injuries and was taken to an area hospital in stable condition.

In a statement to IndieWire, a rep for Majors wrote, “He did nothing wrong. We look forward to clearing his name and clearing this up.”

The news was first reported by TMZ.

The arrest came at a pivotal moment for Majors’ career as the actor rose to movie star status in Hollywood in 2023. After receiving rave reviews at Sundance for his role as an obsessed bodybuilder in “Magazine Dreams,” he made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.” In this film, he played the villain Kang the Conqueror, around whom Marvel built the upcoming Phase 6.

Majors will reprise the role in several upcoming films, including Avengers: Secret Wars and Avengers: Age of Ultron. A month later, he faced Michael B. Jordan in Creed III, a blockbuster that only added to the sense that Majors was on his way to A-list status.

IndieWire has also reached out to Marvel Studios for comment.
