Jenna Ortega Debunks Johnny Depp Dating Rumors
Jenna Ortega recently took to Instagram to end rumors suggesting she’s dating Johnny Depp.
The “Wednesday” star, spotted filming scenes for the highly anticipated “Beetlejuice 2” before the SAG-AFTRA strike, reacted to the rumors that began circulating following a report by the gossip account DeuxMoi, which claimed they were seen together. According to NME, DeuxMoi also suggested the rumored lovers were working together on “Beetlejuice 2.”
The 20-year-old actress wasted no time setting the record straight regarding romantic involvement with the 60-year-old “Pirates Of The Caribbean” actor. She took to her Instagram Story to express her disbelief, stating, per Daily Mail, “This is so ridiculous I can’t even laugh. I have never met or worked with Johnny Depp in my life. Please stop spreading lies and leave us alone.”
Speculation surrounding Ortega and Depp’s alleged relationship emerged after Depp’s defamation trial concluded, resulting in a $15 million damages award to him from his ex-wife, Amber Heard.
She Stars In ‘Beetlejuice’ Upcoming Sequel
Production for the anticipated “Beetlejuice” sequel officially kicked off a few months earlier on May 10 in London. In the sequel, Winona Ryder will reprise her role as Lydia Deetz, with Ortega playing her daughter.
In early July, the mother-daughter characters were spotted on set in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, filming wedding scenes, with Filipe Cates also appearing. Notably, Ryder maintained her iconic spiked black fringe from the original film while braving the set’s chilly weather in a puffer jacket.
Later that same month, Ortega was captured in character, riding a bike down a serene road in East Corinth, Vermont, dressed in an edgy ensemble and black lace-up boots. The town had transformed into a Halloween wonderland for the movie, adorned with pumpkins, hay, and fallen leaves.
Variety announced in May that the official release date for “Beetlejuice 2” is set for September 6, 2024, marking a significant 36-year gap since the original Tim Burton film’s debut in 1988.
Jenna Ortega Opens Up About Social Media
In a previous interview as part of Variety’s Actors On Actors series with Elle Fanning, Ortega opened up about her emotional relationship with social media. She confessed that her connection with Instagram could sometimes turn “ugly” and acknowledged that her humor had occasionally landed her in “trouble.”
“You,” the actress explained, “I want people to get to know the people behind the camera and realize that people should never be put on a pedestal.”
She discussed how, as she gained more exposure to the world, some people exploited vulnerability, twisting it in unexpected ways. “They see your vulnerability and twist it in a way you don’t always expect,” she shared.
Regarding authenticity on social media and with her followers, Ortega emphasized, “I don’t want to feel gross. I would rather people see me cry and do whatever than be something I’m not.”
She expressed her emotional unease with the impact of social media on people her age, describing it as a constant comparison game that fosters a herd mentality and manipulation. She candidly admitted, “After the show, I’m nervous to post or even say anything on there or even be myself.”
Ortega gained fame for her portrayal of Wednesday Addams in the popular Netflix series “Wednesday,” which notably saw four out of its eight episodes directed by Burton.
In July, the “Scream” actress took to her Instagram to celebrate the remarkable achievement of the show, which received a staggering 12 Emmy nominations. These nominations encompassed categories such as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (nominated for Ortega herself), Outstanding Comedy Series, and even Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series for Tim Burton.
In an enthusiastic caption, Ortega shared her delight, saying, “What wonderful news to hear the Wednesday team has received twelve Emmy nominations,” She posted this alongside a picture of her character alongside co-star Gwendoline Christie.
Expressing her immense appreciation for the dedication of the cast, crew, writers, and directors, she added, “I’ve been so fortunate to witness firsthand the incredible time/effort being put in by our cast, crew, writers, and directors, and feel so excited to be able to share this with them.”
