Rihanna previously turned down a Super Bowl performance

The “Diamonds” singer was asked by the NFL to perform at the 2019 Super Bowl, but she turned it down in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick.
At the time, Kaepernick protested police brutality against people of color by kneeling during the national anthem at NFL games, drawing outrage from then-President Donald Trump and his supporters.
The NFL then created a rule to penalize players and/or teams for protesting the national anthem.
In a 2019 interview Fashion, Rihanna said, “I didn’t dare do it. Why? Who wins from this? Not my people. I just can’t be a sellout. I wouldn’t be able to qualify.”
“There are things within the organization that I don’t agree with at all and I didn’t want to leave and I wasn’t in their service in any way,” he added.
