HBO, ‘The Bear’ Best TV Critic’s Pick – IndieWire
The record-breaking second season opener “The Bear” brings more good news. The FX on Hulu series leads the 2023 Television Critics Association Awards nominations announced Friday, tied with HBO hits “Succession” and “The Last of Us” with five nods each.
The 39th annual TCA Awards, voted on by more than 200 professional journalists in the U.S. and Canada, are all about television. At the upcoming ceremony, the winners of 14 categories will be announced, which reward outstanding achievements in dramatic literature; Comedy; Miniseries; News and Information; Reality; Variety, sketch or talk shows and more, including the newly created Outstanding Achievement in Children’s Programming, which recognizes programming for children ages seven and younger; and Outstanding Achievement in Family Programming, which recognizes programming for youth ages seven and up.
The combination of HBO and Max leads the nominations for the second season, with 20, including the two aforementioned series “Andor” and “Better Call Saul” as well as the most wanted show of the year. Poker Face, ‘The Bear’, ‘The Other Two’, ‘The White Lotus’ and last year’s big winner ‘Abbott Elementary’.
“The 2023 TCA Awards nominees boast an eclectic lineup from across the entertainment spectrum,” Melanie McFarland, TCA president and TV critic for Salon.com, said in a statement accompanying the nomination announcement. “This season truly had something for everyone – from innovative comedies and gripping dramas to immersive documentaries and refreshingly cerebral storytelling set in a galaxy far, far away. I look forward to seeing which stars and series our members have chosen for awards when the winner is announced.”
