‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1. 3’ Super Bowl trailer
James Gunn’s final Marvel movie hits theaters on Friday, May 5.
Marvel delighted fans Sunday night with a surprise preview of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” at Super Bowl LVII. in the first quarter. In the film, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista and Vin Diesel return for one last journey through the cosmos of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Unsurprisingly, the trailer puts Cooper’s Rocket Raccoon in the spotlight. James Gunn, the director of the franchise, has never tried to hide the fact that the third and final film in the series is based around the Rocket.
“After I started doing the first Guardians movie, I was drawn to it,” he said in a recent interview. “I felt like I was dedicated, if that makes sense. So I feel really good (about volume 3) because I feel like I’ve done everything I can to make this trilogy as good as it can be. And I feel incredibly blessed and lucky to have had these people around me. This is the greatest blessing of my life… I would have been very sad not to finish the trilogy, for many reasons, but I just feel very connected to Rocket. I feel like no one could tell your full story if it weren’t for me.
“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 3” will be James Gunn’s final project at Marvel before he leaves to focus on his new gig as co-CEO of DC Studios. But that doesn’t mean his enthusiasm for the franchise that made him an A-list director has waned. In a recent Twitter thread, Gunn waxed nostalgic about his experiences on the three “Guardians” films.
“I’ve spent most of the last 10 years of my life working on and thinking about the Guardians.” Gunn wrote. “I still have a long way to go with VFX and editing, but it was still important to me. It’s kind of easy to explain to others how much I love this crew. It’s harder to explain how much I love these characters — that I see them as parts of me and parts of those I love, and filming them and writing their words is a way of expressing that love.”
“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 3” opens May 5, 2023, in theaters only. You can watch the preview during Super Bowl LVII below.
