One of the biggest box office flops of 2022 was “Terror on the Prairie,” a western produced by Ben Shapiro and starring Gina Carano. It was Carano’s first major role since being fired from “The Mandalorian” over a series of social media posts that many considered anti-Semitic. The film grossed just $804 in its one-day theatrical run, despite the actress having whatever star power she had on the political right.

The film was part of The Daily Wire’s stated strategy of making films that engage audiences without overt messages, but without being overtly conservative.

“We make fun content, challenging content, and adult content,” Daily Wire co-founder and CEO Jeremy Boreing told IndieWire recently about the company’s film strategy. The two things that set it apart (the Daily Wire movie) are the fact that it’s pretty much talking about values that conservatives align with – not strictly conservative values. We’re not doing Hillary’s hard-hitting story, and we’re not making ragged football players find Jesus in the third act.”

But even though “Terror on the Prairie” was the right-wing media’s most serious attempt at mainstream filmmaking to date, it failed to resonate with its target audience. A new story The AV Club He revealed that there are still some extreme online personalities who think the film is too “woke”. Many of them complained in the comments on Twitter and IMDB about the male characters of the film, who do not act masculine enough, while Carano’s heroine can save the day.

Carano, for his part, denies that he made any bad decisions, either morally or financially. A recent one Twitter threadhe stood by the actions that led to his resignation and blamed the groupthink of journalists for his downfall.

“I didn’t fumble the bag, I just didn’t buy into the sold-out narrative, the online mob couldn’t handle that, so they petitioned to kick me out and win. I am not sorry. I stood up for what I thought was the right thing to do, and the more time passes, the better I feel,” he wrote. “The real scumbag is selling out journalists like you who have sold out America and stopped asking questions to please a fickle manipulated crowd. This is what you valued and this will be your legacy.”
