Fast & Furious Presents: HOBBS & SHAW – Movie Review

Fast & Furious Presents Hobbs & Shaw Movie Review

Hobbs & Shaw is a big ridiculous and refreshingly hilarious action movie with a few big surprises. The first-ever Fast & Furious spin-off movie Hobbs & Shaw, the movie comes along as the 9th Film and a nearly 20-year-old franchise.

And while it maintains roots and its sprawling growing and over-the-top origins from Fast & Furious movies. It actually stands very much on its own and could spawn its own not so little pocket franchise within that big screen world.

Dwayne Johnson checks in as Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham is opposite with Deckard Shaw the two together on-screen only build on their electrifying chemistry with director David leach checking in to bring out the best of their action abilities. But also deliver a similar self-aware and side-splitting Lee funny vibe for the film like he did with Deadpool 2.

At times it does take itself a little too seriously with such a wild premise of Idris Elba’s Brixton trying to destroy humanity while calling himself and carrying himself like black Superman.

Those Statham and Johnson are veteran action stars with all of that experience on display Vanessa Kirby checks in for scene-stealing moments. It abundantly displays that the girls can hang in a blockbuster action flick just the same.

Ultimately, Hobbs & Shawn feels a lot like the original Terminator movies with a Marvel formula not in the fact that those franchises were innovative, but in that it borrows elements which already works there a story of an enhanced and relentless being trying to wipe out humanity is juxtaposed with levity and humor to make sure the audience has a good time. And it works, but it’s not anything we haven’t seen before.

Still, it is loaded with amazing surprises which if you don’t have them spoiled for you will absolutely justify the price of admission on their own.

In the end, leave your logic at the door if you want to enjoy Hobbs & shaw gravity and real-world rules don’t apply in this movie which The Fast & Furious franchise had already proved several times over. It’s a big ridiculous hilarious good time at the movies and it’s only missteps come in trying to be something more than that.
