“Fantastic!” Staying closed during the summer at Disneyland
after a fire during the “Fantastic!” performance with the Maleficent dragon animatronic, Disney removed future versions of the nightly show a Disneyland at least until May 26, but that has changed.
“Fantastic!” Disneyland will be closed for the summer, at least until Labor Day, which falls on September 4 this year.
Disney released a follow-up statement to “Fantasmic!”

Following the incident at Disneyland Park, the company issued the following statement:
“During the last show of Fantasmic! a prop for the dragon caught fire in Disneyland Park on Saturday night. Anaheim Fire & Rescue responded quickly and extinguished the fire. All the cast members were safely evacuated from Tom Sawyer Island. Due to the smoke and wind, attractions near the island were safely evacuated from guests, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
We are temporarily suspending the fire effects similar to Disneyland Park Fantasmic! at select performances and entertainment experiences worldwide, Fantasmic! fire at Disneyland Park.
The continued safety of our actors and guests is extremely important.”
Disney has released another statement confirming that the show will remain closed for the entire summer. “We’re taking this time to evaluate the show and explore opportunities to bring new magic and treats to guests,” Disney said in a statement. WDWNT. “Guests who have previously booked a ‘Fantasmic!’ The meal package will be notified of the break. We will soon provide additional information about the guests’ alternative experiences this summer.”
The announcement also indicates that changes may be coming to the nightly program. Last year, Disney World modified the “Fantasmic!” version and recorded scenes from popular movies like ‘Aladdin’, ‘Moana’ and ‘Frozen’. Disneyland may make similar changes to its version while the show remains closed for the next few months.
