Evangeline Lilly in “Lost”: “I Knew I Was Bad”
“I feel like Season 3 was a turning point,” Lilly said. “I started trying to learn the craft.”
Evangeline Lilly was literally lost on set for her breakout role in Lost.
The ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ actress has revealed she was ‘shaking’ about her ‘bad’ acting in the early seasons of the hit JJ Abrams series.
“There would be Lost parties where the cast would gather to watch the show, and when there would be a Kate-centric episode, I would want to curl up in a pit and die because I knew I was bad,” Lilly said. while “Happy Sad Confused” podcast. “And to this day, I still stand by the fact that I can watch the first couple of seasons and cringe because I’m not very good.”
“Lost” debuted in September 2004 and ran for six seasons, ending in May 2010.
“I feel like Season 3 was a turning point where I went from ‘panicked, figure it out, just shoot from the hip, feel it, go with my gut’ to ‘I hate this, I don’t want it. do this, get me out of here—oh, I think if I’m here, I’ll be stuck and I’ll have to figure it out,” Lilly continued. “And it was in Season 3 that I started to really learn my craft.”
It was during the first season of “Lost” that Lilly was approached by Joss Whedon to play Wonder Woman in a DC installment.
“I wasn’t drawn to it and there was nothing about the meeting that moved me or made me think, ‘Oh, I have to do this.’ Nothing clicked. Nothing was good, Lilly said. “I’m too authentic for my own good. That is, not good. If I’m not impressed, you’ll know. And maybe sometimes you shouldn’t know.”
Lilly infamously turned down a role in the “X-Men” franchise after “Real Steel” co-star and Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman asked her to join the franchise.
“I said, ‘No. I do not care. I don’t care,” Lilly said. “I was like, ‘I feel like a dick because I’m talking to an X-Men!’ The X-Men! And I’m like, ‘No, that’s not attractive. Like what?!’ I felt so gross!”
He added: “(I) was too young to be so polite.”
