“I swear, I almost passed out,” Elvira said of the sneak peek of Pitt preparing for the 1999 film.
It’s a tale as old as time and straight out of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood: an iconic actress lives next door to an A-lister who turns out to be none other than Oscar winner Brad Pitt.
Elvira Mistress of Darkness Cassandra Peterson has revealed that she sold her ‘haunted’ Los Feliz mansion to Pitt and lived next door to him for years. The neighborly proximity also led Peterson to watch Pitt train in his garage for the 1999 film “Fight Club.”
“One time I was walking down the street like a dork because I had just gotten out of the shower. I was in a hurry to get somewhere, so I was walking my dogs down the street for a quick walk, and I go by Brad’s garage and he’s just wearing sweatpants and he’s banging,” Peterson said. People magazine. “He does a punching bag. He wears boxing gloves and punches a bag.”
He continued: “It was made for the movie Fight Club! He’s in and I really—I swear I almost passed out. I remember him saying, “Hey, how are you?” and I’m like, ‘Wow.’ I couldn’t speak. I blushed. I felt like I was going to pass out. He’s so stunningly, stunningly handsome – and to top it off, he’s lovely. I have to say, Brad was simply amazing. It was a great experience to live next to him.”
Peterson added, “I was always looking for him. I had a balcony. People thought I wished I had a telescope to see what was going on. But the first thing he did, of course, was to put up giant hedges around the property so no one could see him. And who could blame him?
He warned Pitt about the “weird things” that were happening at his house, noting that Pitt was very excited about it and thought the paranormal connection was “pretty cool.”
“I saw people walking upstairs, like real people just walking,” Peterson recalled. “Once (it was a ghost) I was sitting downstairs in front of the fireplace, once I walked into my bedroom and back. We saw a man floating at the bottom of the pool, things like that.
Peterson later had a priest perform an exorcism on the property.
“So we told Brad everything and he really liked it. I mean, there’s not a lot of customers that would have that as a selling point, but he was like, ‘Oh, this is so awesome,'” Peterson said. “I love that you appreciated the house so much.”
Pitt recently sold the home he shared with ex-wife Angelina Jolie for $40 million. He bought the house from Peterson in 1994 for $1.7 million and later bought the surrounding lots to build the property.
