Aubrey Plaza stole Joe Biden’s memos about him from the White House
The “White Lotus” star first met the president when he debated with him at a youth leadership conference.
Aubrey Plaza is the most famous person from Delaware, at least an online voting The state’s News Journal was published in 2018. “The White Lotus” star’s biggest competition for the top spot is, of course, President Joe Biden, and as Plaza says, the two have a surprisingly long history together — including an incident. where he stole memos about him from Vice President Biden’s office.
Plaza revealed the anecdote in a recent interview The New Yorker, where he talked about “The White Lotus” and his Delaware roots. Plaza explained that when Amy Poehler starred in the NBC comedy “Parks and Recreation,” Biden appeared in a 2012 episode of the show while serving as Barak Obama’s vice president. The production was filmed in the White House, and the actors toured the Vice President’s office.
Plaza had previously met Biden when he was a teenager and attended what he described as the “Joe Biden Youth Leadership Conference,” and they spoke briefly before the tour.
“He knew my name.” He was like “Aubrey!” Plaza told the New Yorker. “Whenever I see it, it always tells the same story. His first wife went to the same high school as me, so she always talks about how she waited for him outside the convent because it’s an all-girls Catholic school—and it’s a very sweet story, but I’ve heard it a lot. I said, “I know, Joe! He went to Ursuline!
After taking the tour of the office, Plaza discovered a note on Biden’s desk with his name and points about him, including how they first met and their Delaware connection. Plaza immediately took the note off Biden’s desk, and although “Parks and Recreation” creator Michael Schur talked him out of it, he was not punished.
“I felt like I knew! He doesn’t remember me at all! But politicians are like that, you know? I pocketed it, and Mike Schur, the creator of “Parks and Rec,” was horrified. He said, “You can’t steal from the White House!” And I said, “I don’t care! I know what he did! He didn’t know me!” Plaza said. “Yes, I stole it right off his desk.” And there should be cameras in the White House. But they didn’t do anything to me.”
Even if Biden asked for his note back, Plaza wouldn’t be able to help; he also told The New Yorker that he had lost the note since his tour of the White House.
“Can you imagine if I had kept it?” I could have framed it or sold it,” Plaza said. “He’s the president now,” I had no idea.
In another part of the interview, Plaza discussed her first meeting with Biden as a teenager, explaining that the now-president gave a speech at the end of the conference and “stared down” Biden during the closing event.
“He asked how it went and I immediately put my hand up and said, ‘This is bullshit. This conference sucks. You didn’t let us talk. This should have been about the students,” Plaza said. “I always tried to cheer myself up at this moment. And he didn’t like that. I remember her face getting very red. He used to get very fired up when he gave speeches. It was crazy.”
Fortunately, Biden doesn’t seem to hold a grudge against Plaza for his actions as a teenager. The president sent a congratulatory video to the star on being named Vermont’s most famous person, which was presented at the Plaza. I recently filled up hosting on “Saturday Night Live.”
