ASC 2023 Award Winners: Mandy Walker won for ‘Elvis’
“The Old Man,” “Barry” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” also received awards at the March 5 ceremony.
“Elvis” cinematographer Mandy Walker won feature at the ASC Awards on March 5 when the Society of American Cinematographers presented their honors at the 37th annual awards ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
Walker’s win in the feature film category may prove prescient; In 17 of the last 36 years, the winner of the ASC film won the Oscar. But it’s worth noting that Oscar nominees “The Vault” and “Quiet on the Western Front” were not among the ASC nominees.
In the TV categories, “The Old Man” won for Motion Picture, Limited Series or Experimental Television Movie and One-Hour Television Series Episode – Commercial, while “Barry” won for Half-Hour Television Series Episode. season 3 finale and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” won the One-Hour Television Series Episode – No Commercial for the season 4 finale.
In addition, many awards were presented. EGOT winner Viola Davis received the Board of Governors Award; two-time Oscar nominee Stephen Goldblatt received a lifetime achievement award, and Darius Khondji received an international award. Five-time Emmy winner Fred Murphy received the Career Achievement in Television trophy, two-time FX Oscar winner Sam Nicholson received the Curtis Clark Technical Award, and Charlie Lieberman received the Presidents Television Award.
