According to the outlet, the “Dog Day Afternoon” star did not believe he was responsible for the pregnancy due to underlying medical issues that would typically prevent a man from successfully impregnating a woman.

He has a son, Elliot, and a daughter, Helen Grace, with his second wife, Grace Hightower. With such a large brood, many wonder how he remained in control of his home front and busy career.

They got an answer when he opened up about his experiences as a father last month while promoting his recent comedy ‘About My Father’. After explaining that he has to strike a balance between his love talk as an openly loving father to the children and the “tough stuff”, he continued:

“You can’t get around this with children. I don’t like having to lay down the law and stuff like that. But (sometimes) you have no choice. And I think any parent would say the same. You always want kids to do the right thing and give them the benefit of the doubt, but sometimes you don’t.”

De Niro added that he doesn’t consider himself a “cool dad,” even if that’s a label he would have liked. In his words:

“You know, my kids sometimes disagree with me and they’re respectful.” My daughter, who is 11 years old, sometimes makes me sad and I argue with her. I love him, but you know. And now the youngest, this is yet to come. But that’s it.”

Also, a grandfather, the “Meet the Fockers” host has since suggested that the best thing a parent – or grandparent – can do is encourage and support their offspring to achieve their dreams.
