Aerosmith Fans React to Steven Tyler’s Fractured Larynx Injury
September 30, 2023
Steven Tyler is opening up about his vocal injury that has gotten serious and might affect his ability to perform.
The iconic rock band Aerosmith rescheduled its concerts earlier this month after the lead vocalist Steven Tyler damaged his vocal cords during a show. While many hoped for the singer’s swift recovery, the group recently revealed the 75-year-old’s condition was more severe than they imagined.
Fans Beg Steven Tyler To Retire As Aerosmith Announces Tour’s Postponement
News of Tyler’s worsened health came via a bold poster on the band’s official Instagram page. The update featured a joint statement from Aerosmith members explaining why the group’s “Peace Out Tour” had to be postponed.
According to the message, the lead singer’s vocal cords were severely damaged, and he could no longer give his show-stopping screams until further notice. “To our fans: Unfortunately, Steven’s vocal injury is more serious than initially thought,” the announcement began.
“His doctor has confirmed that in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, he fractured his larynx, which requires ongoing care,” the bandmates noted alongside an assurance of the 75-year-old’s well-being.
“He is receiving the best medical treatment available to ensure his recovery is swift, but given the nature of a fracture, he is being told patience is essential,” the “Toys in the Attic” hitmakers explained. As a result of Tyler’s recovery, the “Peace Out” tour was rescheduled for sometime in 2024.
Aerosmith promised the new dates would be announced as soon as they had more information to work with. Meanwhile, fans could choose to honor their purchased tickets on the rescheduled dates or request a refund from their vendors. However, they could only get their money back after the new dates are revealed.
As for how Tyler felt amid his fractured larynx, the poster included a statement from the 4-time Grammy winner. The singer stressed that he was saddened by the situation and vowed to return with his bandmates. The rock star’s words read:
“I am heartbroken to not be out there with Aerosmith, my brothers, and the incredible Black Crowes, rocking with the best fans in the world. I promise we will be back as soon as we can! – Love, Steven.”
Fans Want Steven Tyler To Retire
Despite the “Dream On” artist’s willingness to finish his farewell tour alongside his longtime colleagues, fans were more concerned about his health. Many implored the entertainer to see his damaged vocal cords as a sign and swiftly retire.
“He’s 75, time to stop before it kills him on stage,” a worried Aerosmith admirer penned. A fellow devotee echoed similar sentiments, noting the end of Tyler’s legacy. “Well guys…Another one of the vocal gods is ending; we better get used to it,” the individual declared.
A third claimed they had predicted the heartbreaking outcome, stating it “sounded too unrealistic that the tour would start back up so quickly.” The fan believes the beloved group should have retired without going on a farewell tour.
“I still say to this day Rush did the best farewell. It wasn’t announced as their last, and the shows were great retrospect of their entire career,” the Instagram user pointed out. Many agreed that Aerosmith might not return in 2024 with a fourth writing: “It was a good run.”
While most respectfully addressed Tyler’s dilemma, a few trolls unleashed their fiery tongues in the comments. Someone implied the situation was expected, stating: “When it’s time….it’s time. The age, the drugs, the voice….”
“Just hang it up already… does anyone want to hear Dream On, Sweet Emotion, and I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing for the millionth time anyway,” another critic quipped. “No offense to you guys, but just retire,” a third chimed while a fourth cried: “Just retire! They had a great career!”
“‘Didn’t see this coming,’ – nobody ever,” someone taunted the rock band with a fellow social media user disapproving of Aerosmith’s choice to remain as musicians. “They should have retired years ago…,” the individual noted.
Due to Tyler’s poor health, fans’ pleas for the group’s retirement were understandable. Last year, the New Yorker’s condition influenced the cancellation of the band’s Las Vegas residency show. At the time, Aerosmith released a statement stating the lead vocalist was “unwell and unable to perform.”
This was not the first time the 75-year-old’s condition affected his colleagues, as their 2022 summer shows could not hold because of the entertainer’s rehabilitation. Tyler voluntarily checked into a treatment facility after relapsing into drug use.
