Julia Louis-Dreyfus shares her miscarriage
“Seinfeld” star Julia Louis-Dreyfus recently shared a heartbreaking experience from her past on “Wiser than me” podcast. The 62-year-old actress has spoken candidly about her journey to motherhood and the miscarriage she suffered aged just 28 after marrying husband Brad Hall in 1987.
During a conversation with guest Ruth Reich, Louis-Dreyfus recalled the moment she found out she was pregnant. “I got pregnant for the first time when I was about 28 and I was crazy happy,” she said. “I got pregnant easily. I felt very fertile, very feminine. Then, late in the pregnancy, my husband, Brad, and I realized that this little fetus was not going to live.
The actress said the experience was “emotionally devastating” and worsened when she later contracted an infection and was hospitalized. “I finally got out of the hospital and came home to recover, but they haven’t let me out of bed yet. As they say, I was bedridden,” he recalled.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus recalls the sweet gesture of her husband and mother
In the podcast episode, the 11-time Emmy winner talked about the support she received during her recovery. She revealed that her mother came to her and her husband and together they created a comforting environment that made her feel loved and cared for.
Recalling the loving moment, she said: “He made this great cozy chili in a cast iron pan with cornbread in the pan. She and my husband, Brad, set up a small card table at the foot of the bed. And the smell of cornbread and chili was so wonderful.”
Although she was unable to eat solid food due to her recovery, the smell of the food and the sweet gesture made her feel comforted, and she describes the experience as one of her “greatest memories”. He added: “It didn’t matter. It was the best food and I didn’t even eat it. Making it was so comforting and embracing.”
His battle with cancer
Despite the devastating loss of their first child, Louis-Dreyfus and Hall have built a beautiful family and are the proud parents of two sons, Henry Hall and Charlie Hall, born in 1992 and 1997.
In 2017, Louis-Dreyfus was diagnosed with breast cancer, which she bravely fought with the support of her family and friends. After announcing that she was cancer-free in 2019, the actress spoke to him People magazineIn April 2020, about the impact of his support system on his recovery. “You hear it all the time, but other than the knowledgeable doctors and nurses, the people I relied on the most were my family and close friends,” she said.

In an interview With Jimmy Kimmel, the actress gleefully admitted that she watched her son’s “really steamy” scenes in the HBO series and was all praise. “I watched the show and I thought it was really good,” he said. “He was adorable.” Some girl was king in the library and I thought she was dynamite.
When Kimmel joked about what it must be like to see her son having sex in a library after teaching him to read, Louis-Dreyfus responded with her trademark sense of humor, saying it was an “absolutely” proud moment for her.
